Welcome to the Natural Medicine, Online, Doctorate Course in Public Health

Our teaching approach gives the practitioner a more than affordable alternative to new vistas in education by combined resident studies and distance learning.

This is not an ordinary course with ordinary content. It is designed for Missionaries working in the field. It was designed to give the content and skills for service, emphasizing knowledge and skills, in addition to academics.

The School of Public Health in the Faculty of Health Sciences offers innovative and flexible postgraduate programs for new and experienced professionals and managers in the health and welfare sector.
This includes both public and private sector as well as non-profit organisations. Our courses are responsive to the changing and dynamic nature of the health and human-service industry. Program offerings include a choice of single subjects, graduate certificates, postgraduate diplomas and masters and doctoral degrees.

The mission of the School of Public Health is to advance the public’s health and well being
by achieving excellence in the development, dissemination and deployment of health-related
knowledge through teaching, research, consultancy and community service from
a multidisciplinary approach.

Online Courses

Courses are offered for candidates with deficiencies in health related subjects.

Human Anatomy & Physiology

This course represents a functional view of the body’s anatomy, physiology, and mechanisms of disease. It is presented as a conceptual learning approach, with emphasis on understanding the body’s complex relationships rather than memorizing scores of facts and figures.

Microbiology & Hygiene

Portrays knowledge for the various kinds of bacteria which are known to produce disease, the conditions in which they live and multiply, how they invade the tissues, and how the human body should normally be able to resist infection. It explains the ordinary precautions which should be taken by health personnel to combat infection. 

Virology & Contamination

Portrays knowledge for the various kinds of viruses which are known to produce disease in plants, animals and man; the conditions in which they live and multiply, how they invade the tissues, and how the human body should normally be able to resist infection. It explains how viruses were discovered and their impact on clinical medicine.  

Essentials of Diet & Nutrition

Provides the student with a basic scientific understanding of the essential aspects of nutrition, biochemical properties and their interaction with the components of our bodies vital for our health and well-being. Allows the student to make reasonable judgments regarding nutritional claims and fad diets. Provides a basic core of factual data on current controversies regarding food, nutrition and health. Also covers information on food poisoning, additives and flavorings; and specialized topics on fasting, vegetarianism, obesity, alcohol.  

Toxicology

The essentials of the biochemical basis of toxins are covered, including toxidromes; and the uncommonly recognized toxins - sugar, fat, and proteins. Topics include the global impact of toxins on human ecology.

Graduation: A PhD thesis shall not exceed 100,000 words.
The candidate should demonstrate a capacity for independent research and an ability to make a
substantial and original contribution to learning.

Admission requirements
The normal requirement for admission as a candidate is a bachelor’s degree. Prospective
students should contact the School to discuss candidature prior to applying. Applications are also made
through the Sovereign Medical Order of the Knights Hospitaller.
