The word 'elegant' is often used to describe the sequences of discovery that have made in the science of genetics. Genetics has become a cornerstone of biology and examples in this course are taken from a wide range of plants, animals and man, to demonstrate the wide application of this science which now affects every aspect of our lives, our food, and our society.
The understanding of the mechanisms of heredity that has resulted from these experiments and discoveries is applied to problems of mutation, selection and evolution of genetic systems. Matters of practical import are examined - blood groups, sickle cell, inbreeding, recessive lethals, etc. |
